I first crossed paths with Pierre, back in the spring of 2017, when he was COO of LifeLabs. Like many companies of large size, Pierre had exhausted his organization’s ability to eke out operational efficiencies through labour and realized it was time to undertake a digital transformation in order to realize even deeper operational efficiencies. Pierre, not being your average COO, jumped in with both feet and scoured the market for state-of-the-art technologies that would truly have a positive impact on his business. More than finding the right technology, he researched who could deliver it while meeting the timelines laid out by his executive leadership team.
Pierre, being a forward thinker, did not want to solve his problem with legacy thinking. Rather than implementing the usual byzantine RFP process, he created a new process that gave him the results he was seeking. He brought all the stakeholders into a room over a two-day period, which included leaders from across LifeLabs and various vendors and consulting companies. The leaders discussed and shared what issues they were experiencing and the vendors/consulting companies then contributed their approach to solving those issues - an interactive information session if you will.
It was without question the most unique approach to an RFP I had seen in my 20+ years in sales. It achieved his goal of finding the best solution that really delivered on what he and his team were looking for, quickly and efficiently without wasting time and energy. I can remember thinking after the experience that Pierre should patent his process. Win or lose, everyone at the table was given the same opportunity to succeed and he got to the end game much quicker than by implementing the legacy approach.
